What About the Shoes?

I must admit, I like ideas to roll around in my head before I time thought to action.

And sometimes, I even need a bit of help from a friend.

Just the other day, after viewing the latest blog posting, my good friend, Jo Val said, "Great job. What about Gabourey Sidibe--all this talk about what she wore to the Oscars. What about her shoes?"

Ah Ha! If you remember, it was only a few weeks ago that a gossip website posted unflattering images of Sidibe's feet--hanging out of her shoe as she walked down the street.

Not a good look. At all.

And photos of Sidibe at an NAACP luncheon showed up all over the Internet. Dress was flattering. Shoes were not.
Don't think for one second that I am in anyway ridiculing Sidibe. She is a wonderful, intelligent and truly courageous young woman. The ability to defy standards of beauty not just because of her complexion but also her size, is inspiring.

With plus sized women such as Sidibe and Mo'Nique confidently turning heads, high end fashion designers are finally beginning to realize that yes, there is room on the red carpet for women over size 6.

And with every blog posting by young women such as Cynthia Lundi of Big Gurl Fashion and Gabbi Gregg of Young, Fat and Fabulous, retailers are taking notice and expanding their designs to include those of us who wear sizes 14+!

I'm just wondering when shoe designers will really start to market well made, trendy wide width pumps (with supportive heels!), boots, sandals, even ballet flats for women with wide feet--especially plus sized women with wide feet.

Until then, I'll just keep scouring the Internet for the best buys for all women of all sizes who love looking and feeling from head to toe!

Stay tuned. Another posting will be coming soon!

Color Conundrum: Basic Brown or Boisterous Blue

I’m usually not a fan of buckles. They remind me of those classic 80’s shoe that every girl with a wide foot had to wear: rubber bottom, hard leather top, lots of buckles on the side.

I can still hear my mother’s voice, “They are so cute. And they give you lots and lots of support.” (See Exhibit A to the left!)

But the Samanta Women's Alexis Pump, has changed my mind. The snake skin pumps are one of my favorites but thin, high heels are not. I'm a chunky girl and it just isn't appealing to be tipping around in stilettos. And that's why I love these so much!  Featuring a not too chunky but not to thin 2 ½ inch heel,  and a feisty gold-toned buckle on the side, this pair of pumps combines sleek with sassy.

I love, love, love the stealth attitude of the blue pump. They’re a daring duo without screaming “I WANT YOU TO SEE ME!”

At the same time, I feel like I need a pair of basic brown pumps—versatile yet sophisticated yet sassy, I can wear them all day.

My problem: I like them both but considering the price--$199.95—buying both is NOT an option. So I’ll leave it up to you!

Which would you choose? Why?

Until next time wide shoe divas!

On Second Thought

I only have two words to say about these boots: FUNKY FRESH!

Known simply as Zelman, these brown leather ankle boots with an animal print cuffs are so necessary.

And for only $59.99, can you really go wrong?

I know I can't!

There’s only one thing a shoe diva loves more than new arrivals: end of season sales.

Let’s face it: it’s the only time we don’t feel bad about purchasing another pair of black boots or those green suede boots sitting quietly on the shoe rack.

Lots of online retailers such as zappos.com, easyspirit.com, Shoebuy.com, are offering some deep, deep discounts on stylish wide width shoes that will leave us feeling guilt free!

And lets not forget that the designers of the Zelman, the Shoe Heaven on a Budget… have some SERIOUS price cuts on their site!

Whether you need a new pair of black pumps or are looking to boost your wardbrode with funky ankle boots or ballet flats, end-of-season sales are the way to go.

Talk to me! What's your shoe sale story? How do you plan on taking advantage of end-of-season sales?

Until next time chicas!

Ditch the Don't Slouch Rule!

Imagine: you wake up one morning and nothing seems to go right. You find a skirt, but you don’t have the right tights.

Finally, after many moments of frustration, you settle on a simple shirt and slip on your dark denim blue skinny jeans.

And then you see the item that will make your outfit look a lot less boring: the suede slouch boots.

The slouch boot has a way of adding a twist to the simplest of outfits. And here's why: slouch boots are different from the rest! They are subtle yet stately and always sexy.

Below are a few heeled slouch boots that I found on Zappos.com that will keep you looking casually chic:

When I saw these two pairs of boots I thought, "subtle, sexy, multipurpose" because they can both take you from day to night!

Bouquets - Baker (Wide Calf) (Black Micro Suede) - FootwearPair these up with textured tights, a slim black skirt and a v-neck sweater and you'll be professional enough for the 9 to 5 and cute enough for afterwork drinks!

rsvp - Neli (Wide Calf) (Grey Suede) - FootwearSleek and quietly bold, these gray boots will still be a sexy addition to your wardrobe. Winter, spring or fall, these boots will add a subtle edge when worn with skinny jeans or leggings.

Both boots are available in an extra wide width and fit a wide calf!

Type Z - Avon (Grey/Dark Grey Suede) - FootwearIf you already own a pair of solid slouch boots, why not purchase these? The contrasting shades of gray, stitching on the calf and foldover cuff make these boots the PERFECT to add to your collection.

So which are your favorite? How do you wear slouch boots?

Until next time chicas!
